REGRETTED DEATH : There was widespread regret and sadness of the news of the passing (unexpectedly) of John O’Brien at his residence at St Anne’s Terrace on Saturday last 13 April. Sincere Sympathy is extended to his brohers, sisters, relatives neighbours and friends.
CHURCH GATE COLLECTION : Sr. Consilio Fitzgerald of Cuan Mhuire, Bruree House will be holding her Annual Church Gate Collection in Kilfinane this weekend. TABLE QUIZ: Kilfinane Parent and Toddler Group wish extend A huge Thank You to everyone who attended the Table Quiz in McGrath’s Bar (Dugout) on Friday night last 12 April. A great night was had by all and some great prizes won in the raffle. A big Thank you to Hugh Murphy for putting all the questions together and been a great quiz master on the night. Joan O’Dea and Melissa Barron for putting so much work into the night .There was a very close finish to a very well run Quiz and there had to be Tie Round of five questions after 100 questions had two teams level with 80 points each , after the Tie Break, the winning team of Seoirse and Ann Bulfin, Fintan Leahy and Brid Sheehy claimed the First Prize Trophies by one point from the team of Colm and Michelle Lowe, Jonathon O’Loughlin and Glen Light who secured the Trophies in second place. Thank you to local businesses who donated spot prizes for the raffle., Flowers By Martina, Sheehy’s Centra, Brians N Dianes Edges, Nila’s Nails & Neilus Hennessy’s Butchers. The Raffle Prize winners were : Jim and Mary Keogh St Annes’s Terrace, Grace O’Connor, Ballyroe Upper, Sean Fitzgerald, Galbally, Eleanor O’ Dea, New Terrace, Anne Gleeson Cush, Breda Walsh Mountain View. Some much needed funds were raised in order to keep the group running thanks again.
HURLERS LOSE OUT IN SENIOR SEMI FINAL: Blackrock lost out to the holders Croom in the South Senior Hurling Championship Semi Final in a very well contested game played in poor weather conditions in Kilbreedy on Saturday evening last 13 April on a score line of Croom 0.16 Blackrock 2.07. Blackrock aided by the wind in the opening half lead at the interval by 1.05 to 0.04. Croom added some early second half points to go into the lead but Blackrock fought back and scored a brace of points followed by a goal, Croom however added two late points to secure a three points victory. Meanwhile Blackrock reached the South Intermediate Championship Semi Final with Castletown Ballyagran, by virtue of a victory by the narrowest of margins over Kilmallock on Wednesday evening last 10 April. on a score line of 1-14 to 1-13.
KILFINANE ATHLETIC CLUB: After a busy week of race participation the previous week Kilfinane AC’s finest were back in training mode with many training hard for the Great Limerick Marathon, Half Marathon and 6 Mile races and other Marathon events. Breda Bridges showed the benefits of consistent training with a fantastic time of 44:25 in the Dolores Molloy Ward 10K in UL on Saturday morning which was over 3 minutes quicker than her previous best over this distance.
Upcoming Races: On Saturday 5 May as part of the Ballyhoura Waking festival Kilfinane village is hosting a marathon with a difference. The Ballyhoura Marathon starts from Kilfinane at 8.30am with a Challenging marked 26.2 mile route traversing forest track, open mountain and riverbanks through the scenic Ballyhoura landscape.
