Birthday: This week we extend birthday greetings to Shelia Carmody of Ballyduff, Knocknagoshel. God willing Shelia wife of the late Bob Carmody, will celebrate her 99th birthday on the 24th of this month. Shelia nee Brosnan was born in Dromada where one of her neighbours was the late renowned matchmaker Dan Paddy Andy O’Sullivan. All her life Shelia has enjoyed the best of health which she attributes to hard work. Prior to working on the farm with her husband Bob , she worked as a dressmaker and never knew the meaning of boredom. Longlivity comes in her family. Her mother lived to be 99 years old, and her grandmother lived to be 104 years. Shelia is devoted to her five children, and ten grandchildren . Shelia is very proud of the fact she is a first cousin of wellknown poet and Journalist Pat Brosnan of Athea and formerly of Dromada. For the past two years Shelia has resided at St Joseph’s Nursing Home, Killorglin where she has as regular visitors her former neighbours Mary and Donie Reidy and Christina and Joe Walsh . We wish Shelia all the best in the future.

GAA: Knocknagoshel seniors suffered their first defeat in the county league on Sunday last when they lost away to Fossa on a scoreline of 2-9 to o-9. Anymore slipups and promotion dreams could be scuttled.
Late Pat Mc Auliffe: Locals were saddened at the death in Brosna recently of Pat Mc Auliffe. A gentleman to his fingertips he was wellknown in these quarters with his lorry drawing daily ground limestone to farmers and building material for contractors. In his young days he played for Brosna footballers against Knocknagoshel on numerous occasions. Sincere sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.
