The following are the readers at Masses this weekend, Sean O’Riordan at the 7pm on Saturday night and Ferghal O’Sullivan at the 10am on Sunday morning.


The National School Children published the January edition of the Parish Newsletter last week; copies were available in the church over the weekend.

A point to note is that due to health and safety reasons, cans can no longer be accepted at the school, but batteries and stamps are very welcome.


Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Mary Gleeson and family of Glenosheen, on the recent death of her mother Mrs. Maureen O’Dwyer of Effin.


Kilfinane Community Play School is now enrolling for September 2013, under both ECCE and CCS schemes.

Application forms available from the Play School between the hours of 9am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, last few remaining places available for the Easter Camp that takes place from Monday March 25 to Thursday 28. Summer camps in July. Further information from 063-91847.


Ballyhoura Bears have a night walk from Glenosheen at 7.30 on this Thursday, contact 087-9229405.

The C walk on Saturday is from Ardpatrick Community Centre at 11am about two hours walking.

On Sunday, February 10 A walkers visit the Galtees, meet 2km east of Glengarra at 9.30am, advance booking for bus transfer, information 087-0927894.

The B walk on Sunday is from Ballyorgan at 11am, about four hours, contact 087-7934958.


The past month was unsettled with frequent spells of heavy rain particularly towards the end of the month leading to flooding and damage to road surfaces, also quite windy at times; there was light snowfall on January 21.

Total rainfall 160.5mm (6.32 ins), rain was recorded on 25 of the 31 days, wettest day January 17 when 57.6mm (2.26 ins) was recorded.

Highest maximum air temperature plus 13.4°c recorded on January 29, lowest minimum air temperature -3.4°c on January 22, lowest grass minimum temperature -6.9°c recorded on January 22 also.
