GAA NEWS: Monday saw Pallasgreen take on Cappamore in the City/East Minor hurling championship in Cappamore. It was very close for most of the match with Pallasgreen shading play slightly in the first half. The second half continued in much the same vein, until near the end Pallasgreen scored a couple of goals to take the victory by 3-12 to seven points. The victory guaranteed a top four finish for our lads and a place in the semi-finals. Friday saw the minors out again, taking on Kilpeacon in their final game in the City/East hurling round robin in Crecora. A strong first half display with two well taken goals from Darren Cosgrave and David Hannon saw Pallasgreen in control at half time, leading 2-8 to 0-5. In the second half Kilpeacon came back strongly in an attempt to win the game, and abetted by a lacklustre performance by Pallasgreen they came within two points of taking the spoils, with the game finishing 2-15 to 3-11. It was a very exciting match with both teams showing some good hurling. Scorers were: Darren Cosgrave1-4, David Hannon 1-3, Colin Ryan (1free 1 65’), Darragh Fanning and Alan Cosgrave (2 frees) 0-2 each, Darren Roche and Robert Laffan a point each. On Sunday our minors played their third game of the week this time in football, taking on Ahane in the East minor final. A scrappy first half which saw both teams kick some very inaccurate balls, and miss some kickable chances nevertheless saw Pallasgreen with their noses in front by five points to two. In the second half Pallasgreen made a massive improvement to their game, and took control of the match. Two early goals from Darren Roche and Eddie Gammell set the tone and the players never let up, scoring a further three goals and four points to end as emphatic winners by a score of 5-9 to five points. Scorers were: Darren Roche 3-0, Ryan Deere 0-3 (all frees), Eddie Gammell and John Ryan 1-0 each, Adam Ryan, Robert Laffan and Alan Cosgrave 0-2 each.
