CHURCH READERS: The following are the readers at masses this weekend, Freddie Ward at the 7pm on Saturday evening and Aileen O’ Dwyer at the 10am on Sunday morning.
TIDY TOWNS: Up to 70 people attended the Tidy Towns event in Ardpatrick on Thursday evening of last week, the workshop was organised by Amanda Slattery and Caitriona Fenton of Ballyhoura Development, two areas were covered, the Wildlife and Natural Amenities category and the preparation of this years application form. Due to heavy rainfall the walkabout in and around the village was abandoned, all were invited to the cover of the Community Centre, Caitriona gave a most informative talk on all aspects of wildlife and plants in general.
Then followed a presentation by Tidy Towns adjudicator Frank Donaldson, there are a number of changes in the application form, and Mr Donaldson outlined those and so many helpful hints to the Tidy Towns group present. Members of the Community Council provided refreshments, well done to the many people who had the village looking so well, it was a great evening and Ardpatrick was delighted to host the workshop, the adjudicators will start visiting towns and villages in the first week of June, that will continue over the coming months, again an appeal to everyone to continue the great effort of previous years.
GROWTH IMPROVES: The countryside has improved in appearance over the past week or so, grass is slowly growing, soil has warmed up a little and trees are leafing up, all about three weeks behind normal, on the negative side rainfall is far too high and land is again very heavy.
