FUN DAY FOR LUCY: The O’Sullivan family of Deebert House Hotel are organising a Fun Day for Lucy in aid of the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation and in memory of their precious little girl, Baby Lucy Anne Murphy O’Sullivan. Nothing compares to caring for your baby at home.

KILMALLOCK CYCLING CLUB: Last weekend again saw ideal weather for cycling on Saturday morning, a group left Kilmallock to complete the route for the up and coming Hub Tour. This spin was arranged to check out the course and the road conditions so that we will be prepared for our annual tour. Preparation is well under way for the Hub Tour and if the last few years are anything to go by all roads will lead to Kilmallock on Sunday April 14, this year’s event is going to be as good if not better than previous years. I hope all training is going well and there are two routes to choose from the 120km route is a tough course with five tough climbs and is not for the faint hearted, this will take you through three counties and some beautiful scenic country side along the Ballyhoura and the Galtee mountains, there is a second route of 90km which has three climbs and also some beautiful scenic country side. Both routes have a food stop along the way so all cyclists can refuel and get you back to Kilmallock. This year will again will see all profits go to a local charity and as we all know with the times we live in all ch! So mark your diary for Sunday April 14 and come to Kilmallock for a great weekend of cycling and good craic. Our Sunday spin is our club spin and last Sunday was no different with large numbers turning up there are two groups leaving the old neodata car park in Kilmallock at 9 a.m and with a distance and a speed prearranged there is sure to be a group to suits you. We also cater for the beginner so don’t hesitate come and join us on Sunday mornings for a spin where you will meet some good people who will be there to help you and advise you and why not get fit and make good friends along the way.

Last Sunday again saw some KCC members heading for Broadford to take part in a cycle race which is held on a very testing circuit that tests the cyclist with tough climbs and fast decents, well done to Austin Sheedy, Willie Wheelan, Joe Costello, Michael Mcauliffe and Richard Hayes. This race saw mixed fortunes for the lads Austin getting a double puncture and Willie crashing out, the other three lads finished in the main bunch best wishes to Willie hope you get well soon and let’s see you back in the saddle. This Saturday March 9 will see a charity event taking place in Kilmallock in aid of the Jack and Jill foundation and it will be hosted by the O’Sullivan family of Deebert House Hotel Kilmallock. There will be a cycle at 10 a.m with two routes a 30km and a 60km spin and at 2pm there will be a family fun 8km run/walk buggy push (accompanied children may cycle) registration for each event will take place at Deebert House Hotel Kilmallock commencing one hour prior to each event so hope to see a big turnout for such a great cause and to show support to a local family.

For more news on Kilmallock Cycling Club check out the papers or become friends on face book and follow us there or log on to and keep up to date with our preparations for our HUB tour on Sunday April 14th.

SOUTHSIDE WHEELY WHEELERS: Southside Wheely Wheelers training continued this week on Saturday with Sam Hand, Liz Leonard, John Crowley, Garry Tierney, Sean Burchill and Jerry Ryan were out cycling. Our Saturday spins are a great way to get fit while having a bit of fun. If you are planning to cycle in any of the leisure tours this year cycling in a large group can be a bit daunting with cyclists all around you calling out “inside” ,“outside” and “car up” amongst other things and whizzing by, our Saturday spins are an ideal introduction to this and even if you are flying fit it can be a great way to gain the confidence of cycling in a group. Sunday training continued with another week of the four mountain challenge covering 80km in the process, we are lucky to have so many challenging hills nearby to get us in fine fettle for the coming year of sportives and races. Out this week were Dermot McCarthy, Willie McCarthy, Tadgh Murphy, Declan McCarthy, Owen Tobin, Archie Gammell, Ger Reidy, Robert Shanahan, Shane O Brien, Pat O Donnell, Michael Gammell, Johnny Crowley, Paul Finn, Martin Lake, Donal Kelly and Anthony O Riordan. Daithi O Criodain, Stephen Finn and Brendan Houlihan were doing the club proud racing in Broadford , we had a mixed bag of results but the guys are showing some promising early season form and things are looking well for the rest of the year. Next Saturday March 9 there is a charity cycle in memory of Baby Lucy Anne Murphy O’Sullivan. Sign on is from 8.45 and departs at 10 from Deebert Hotel in Kilmallock and we hope that all Southside Wheely Wheelers family and friends will come out to support this truly worth cause, all funds raised will go to the Jack and Jill foundation who are a charity who provide home nursing services for sick children. Training continues this Sunday with the cycle departing from the car park beside Kilmallock Cycles at 8.30. Be safe be seen.
