COMMUNITY ALERT: The AGM of the local branch takes place on Wednesday October 16 at 8.00 pm in the Library. Lend your support for this worthwhile organisation and hear about the latest initiatives in relation to the very important issue of safety in the home especially for seniors living along.
SALE OF WORK: Pallaskenry Community Council are holding their annual sale of work on Sunday October 13 from 2.30. The Council greatly depends on this singular fundraiser to maintain the Community Centre. Even a cursory look at this building shows the continued involvement of its carers and the many clubs that use it are beneficiaries of its up to date facilities. Much finance has been channelled into the recent refurbishment and provision of insulation to modern standards. If you are not actively involved in the Community Council’s activities, you can show your appreciation of their work by donating spot prizes, bric-a-brac, good clean saleable items and home produce or of course attending on the day when you can enjoy an Irish Coffee and make your purchases.
KILDIMO AFC: Underage training continues at Kilcornan all-weather pitch. Under 8 & 10 A & B are from 6 – 7 pm. Under 14 Boys and Girls from 7 – 8 pm, both on Tuesday evenings with a cover charge for all at €2. Under 6 coaching takes place in the Community Hall, Kilcornan from 6 – 7 on Wednesday evenings. On Saturday October 26 there’s a full day training camp in Goalkeeping for all ages at Kilcornan. This costs €10 per child with concessions for multiple family members. The annual Underage Halloween Fancy Dress Disco in the Seven Sisters on Sunday October 27 from 4pm to 6pm. Spot prizes for all ages on the day including adults for the best costumes worn on the day. In association with the Kildimo National School we are running a Halloween Art Competition for all ages in the school with prizes being presented at the disco and all art work will be on display in the Seven Sisters. PAINT THE SHANNON: Painters are invited to paint on the Shannon banks near the Castle Oaks Hotel Castleconnell on Sunday October 13, from midday to four o’clock. Bring your own materials and choose your own vantage spot to create your work(s). At 4.30 pm, artists will move to the ACM Centre in Castleconnell village to share their works over a cup of tea.
“THANK YOU”: Bernadette Hackett wishes to record her gratification for the response to her appeal on behalf of the South African township of Zwelshi for the annual Christmas feeding programme. Her band of helpers and the cake bakers and those who appreciate them by buying their wares are especially singled out for mention. Their combined efforts on September 15 at Kilcornan Community Centre brought in an impressive €2,668. This in turn will be spent locally in South Africa in providing the Christmas feeding hampers for 270 families over a period of seven days. A Mass of thanksgiving will be offered in both Kilcornan and South Africa for the intentions of the supporters of this worthy cause.
IRISH RAMBLING HOUSE TOUR OF BRITAIN: Our local Kildimo-born songstress Doris Shire is off again on her annual trip to touch base with our emigrants in Britain. Doris has been a regular on these tours and she features on the DVD’s produced by Joe Harrington’s inspired music and dance troupe. One of her DVD’s features the only commercial recording of Kildimo’s anthem, ‘The Boys of the Line’ which is available from her address in Camheen, Mungret. The preparatory concerts are currently under way and you’ll have a chance to catch the last event prior to their tour at Foilmore Community Centre near Cahirsiveen on the Ring of Kery on Friday October 11. These concerts are an important part of their fundraising to conduct these tours which are an annual since 2000. Generous sponsors are also vital in supporting the annual event. Be sure to tell your relatives in Britain about the venues that begin with Leamington Spa’s St. Patrick’s Club on Wednesday October 16, although tickets are already sold out for the night. The group move to Birmingham for the Thursday night following, where they appear at the Irish Centre, Digbeth. South to London for the following two nights, Friday at the Irish Centre, Camden Town and Saturday night at the Salvatorian College, Harrow Weald. WELLNESS WORKSHOP: The Limerick Federation of the ICA are holding a full day training session at the Day Care Centre, Drombanna on October 12 from 9.30 am to 5pm. Such sessions are being held countrywide by SOS that is ‘Suicide or Survive’ aimed at promoting good mental health and combating negative and destructive psychological conditions.
