COMMUNITY GAMES: We have had a very busy week in Community Games. First up was our Sports Day in Holycross. The weather let us down but all those who turned up had a great time and everyone won a medal from the youngest to the oldest. We had some great performances from Ava Burke, Tara Casey, Emille Taylor, Carragh Joy O’Regan, the Donworth twins, Alice and Anna Joy O’Regan, Emma Fitzgerald, Kate Bateman, Shauna Tierney, Paige McGuire, Sinead Tierney, Grace Fitzgerald, Ellie Glynn in the Girls Section and from John O’Riordan, Robbie Joy O’Regan, Paul, Ross and Luke O’Brien May, Adam Murphy, Gerard Donworth and Liam Enright in the Boys section. The County Finals will be held on the 22nd and 23rd June in Mungret at the GAA Sportsfield. If you missed out on the day and would like to take part there are a few places left. Contact John on 087-9556784. In the U5 and U7 Fun Run. which will be on Sunday 26th, all children who turn up on the day can take part. On Thursday evening our U12 Girls Soccer team went to Elton to play Knocklong in the second of our matches. We were without our Athlacca girls due to illness and county soccer training so we knew it was not going to be easy. The girls raised their game and worked very hard for each other with Eve Ryan in goal, Lily O’Brien and Isobel O’Rourke in the backs, Ciara Hynes, Kate Bateman and Nicole Griffin in midfield and Caoimhe Daly and Shannon Leo up front we knew we had a balanced team. From the start we were on top and Shannon put us 2-0 within 10 minutes and we led by that score at half time. In the second half we continued to be in control with Ciara Hynes adding 2 more goals and Nicole Griffin getting a fifth. Final Score : Knocklong 0, Bruff/Grange/Meanus 5. Well done to all on a great team effort. On Sunday we played in our first U14 Camogie match against Galbally. It was to be a tough match and we were missing a few key players. John Dinneen with Eileen and Paul Ryan were the mentors and their team did them proud. The girls played their hearts out but it was not to be. It was the first time this actual group had played together (without the older girls) and they will have learned a lot from it. We put up a good display but went down by 1-2 to 4-2. But all is not lost. We play Kilfinane next and a win should put us through to the next round. Well done girls. Team: Shauna Ryan, Linda Farrell, Vivienne Dinneen, Eve Ryan, Katie Finn, Eve Butler, Rachel Browne, Lelia Riordan, Mary Nealon, Eadaoin Power Gallagher, Katie Madden, Claudia Griffin and Laura O’Donoghue.

BORD NA NOG NOTES: Our U14 hurlers continue their preparation for the Feile with two good wins in challenge matches against Adare and Ahane. The championship campaign begins on Wed 29th May with a home game against Ballybrown. Throw in 7pm. The U16 footballers played their last game before the exam break against a strong Pallasgreen side. Some outstanding saves by goalkeeper Patrick Ladderman and good defensive displays by Brian Bulfin and Daniel Clifford kept the boys in the game in the first half. Pallas proved too strong in the second half and eventually ran out winners with some well taken points. Congratulations to Scoil Dean Cussen who beat Kilmallock in the South final. Well done to Danny O’Leary and Kevin Bonnar who were on the South Schools team that won the Mackey cup. Also on the schools front congrats to Paul O’Riordan, Timothy McSweeney and David Mulqueen who helped Kilmallock Secondary school win the County final against Cresent Comp. Best of luck to all lads in second class making their First Communion on Sat 25th in Bruff. Enjoy and have a great day. All excused from Saturday morning training!
