Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, Dunnes Stores, Supervalu and Marks & Spencer's have all revealed their opening and closing times over the busy Christmas period

REVEALED: Popular supermarkets reveal Christmas and New Year's opening and closing times

Be prepared this Christmas and make sure you know when your favourite supermarkets are closed ahead of the busy Christmas period.

Marks & Spencer's have issued a statement on behalf of their stores nationwide which said: "Opening times vary by individual store and customers should always check the hours of their local store, which they can do on M&S.ie or by downloading the M&S App.

"Our stores will not be trading on St. Stephen’s Day and will reopen on 27th December. Customers will be able to buy M&S Food in selected Applegreen locations".

SuperValu: Each SuperValu store is independently owned, which means that their festive hours will be depend on each local store operator.

However, on Christmas Day all Supervalu stores will be closed and the majority of stores will also be on St Stephens Day but a few may open with limited hours.

Check your local store's website or notice board for its exact Christmas schedule.

Lidl have issued a timetable on their website stating their opening hours this Christmas which can be found in the link here.

They are opened until 6pm on Christmas Eve and are back open again on Saturday December 27 until 9pm.

Lidl is also closed at 6pm on New Years Eve and their stores are closed on New Years Eve for one day only.

Lidl is also offering longer operating hours and will generally stay open from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM from Saturday, December 20th, to Tuesday, December 23rd (with a 9:00 AM start on Sunday, 21st).

Aldi have also released their Christmas and New Years opening hours which are as follows:

Aldi will be open as usual 8am-10pm Monday to Saturday and 9am-9pm on Sunday apart from on the following key dates:

  • Monday 22nd December: 8am-11pm
  • Tuesday 23rd December: 8am-11pm
  • Wednesday 24th December, Christmas Eve: 8am-7pm
  • Thursday 25th December, Christmas Day: CLOSED
  • Friday 26th December, St Stephen’s Day: CLOSED
  • Saturday 27th December: 8am-9pm
  • Sunday 28th December: 9am-9pm
  • Monday 29th December: 8am-9pm
  • Tuesday 30th December: 8am-9pm
  • Wednesday 31st December, New Year’s Eve: 8am-7pm
  • Thursday 1st January: CLOSED
  • Normal business hours will resume on Friday 2nd  January

Dunnes Stores opening hours are heavily dependent on the specific location, but they all are closed on Christmas Day and St. Stephen's Day.

Many stores will extend their closing time to midnight from mid-December (around the 18th).

Select larger stores may be open for 24 hours on Monday, December 22nd, and Tuesday, December 23rd.

On Christmas Eve (Wed 24 Dec), stores will close early, generally around 6:00 PM.

Tesco's opening hours during the Christmas will be based on the size and type of store (e.g., Express, Superstore), with Superstores often offering the longest hours and the possibility of opening on St. Stephen's Day.

Superstores are likely to open until Midnight in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.

On Christmas Eve (Wed 24 Dec), general Superstore hours are 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Tesco stores will all be closed on Christmas Day.

On St. Stephen’s Day (Fri 26 Dec), Selected Superstores will open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. 

On New Year’s Eve (Wed 31 Dec), general Superstore hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

On New Year’s Day (Thu 1 Jan), selected Superstores will open from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Remember to check your local stores for more details as hours may vary.
