Gardaí's Bake Off-style post goes viral after 'baked' driver arrested on busy Irish motorway

A driver who was "well and truly 'baked'" has been arrested after gardaí caught them speeding at 165km/h, and then discovered they had no insurance, were an unaccompanied learner, and even had a live arrest warrant.

The Laois Roads Policing Unit made the discovery on the M7 motorway, with gardaí later sharing a tongue-in-cheek post about the incident on social media, complete with Great British Bake Off references.

In a post shared on the An Garda Síochána Laois/Offaly Facebook page, gardaí quipped: "On Your Marks, Get Set, BRAKE! Laois RPU stopped this yellow reg BMW speeding at 165 km/h along the M7 yesterday. On approaching this vehicle the aroma of Cannabis would've given even Prue & Paul a bad case of the munchies."

"Our roadside DrugWipe' taste test' came back positive for Cannabis and Opioids. Confirming that this driver was well and truly 'baked'…. And the rest of the recipe wasn't great either: No insurance, Learner Unaccompanied, Live Arrest Warrant. Definitely not a Star Baker! No Hollywood handshake, just good old fashioned handcuffs."

The driver was arrested, charged, and brought before a judge in Tullamore last Sunday morning. Gardaí confirmed the vehicle was also seized.

The post finished with one final culinary flourish, stating: "Results of taking the biscuit: Driver arrested, charged and given an overnight stay in the much less comfortable Garda tent before being brought in front a different type of Judge in Tullamore this morning. Vehicle whisked away (On the back of a tow truck).”
