Shock and heartbreak has rippled through communities as a young man has died suddenly, breaking the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.

Liam Dunne from Roscommon died suddenly on the September 2nd 2025.

He was the cherished son of Róisín and Gary, and much-loved twin brother of Rory and loving brother of Clara. He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his wide circle of friends.

Liam will also be remembered for his passion for sport, especially soccer, and for his wonderful sense of humour that brought joy to all who knew him.

Liam's school has made an emotional tribute following his devastating death that includes: "Liam was more than just a student in our corridors – he was a vibrant presence who brought warmth and joy to our school community. Whether it was his infectious smile in the hallways, his contributions in the classroom, or the way he connected with both peers and teachers,

"Liam had a unique ability to make those around him feel valued and appreciated. Those who knew Liam will remember his kindness and the genuine care he showed for others. He embodied the values that CBS Roscommon strives to instill in all our students, demonstrating respect, compassion, and a zest for life that was truly inspiring.

"As we mourn this tremendous loss, we also celebrate the positive impact Liam had on our school community".

His sudden departure leaves a void that will never be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who loved him.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Liam will repose at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) on Friday, 5th September, from 5pm until 7pm. Mass of the Resurrection will take place on Saturday morning, 6th September, at 11am in the Sacred Heart Church, Roscommon (F42 XT96) followed by burial at St. Coman’s Cemetery, Roscommon.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Liam, with one mourner writing,

"Words cannot express how I felt on hearing of the sudden passing of Liam . A wonderful young lad to have passed too soon . May his many wonderful memories give you the strength you need to help each other with your enormous loss".

Another message said, "Clann na nGael are very saddened at the sudden death of . We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to his parents Róisín and Gary, his brother Rory, his sister Clara, the extended Dunne family, and all Roscommon Gaels GAA".

"I know that I haven't seen much of Rory or Liam since we went to different secondary schools, but I'm still stunned by the news. You never expect it to happen to someone you know, especially so suddenly.
Rory, Clara, Roisín and Gary; I am nothing but devastated for your loss and I wish you all the best in the next few weeks and months. The whole family is thinking of you, as I'm sure we'll tell you. I wish I'd been able to catch up with the boys before Liam's passing," another tribute read.
