Irish supermarket urgently issues 'do not eat' warning over popular product

SuperValue stores in Ireland have issued a product recall and a 'do not eat' warning over a popular fish product.

The recall relates to their SuperValu Signature Taste Yellowfin Tuna Steaks 240g.

In a statement, SuperValu said: "As a precautionary measure SuperValu are recalling the following Usebys of this product due to the possible presence of elevated Histamine levels."

The statement from the popular supermarket chain adds: "If you have purchased this product do not eat. Please return it to your nearest store, where you will be issued with a refund.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your co-operation." The Helpline available for queries is 021 4217619.

On recalls more broadly, SuperValu explains: "Occasionally issues may arise with products on sale on our shelves – both food and non food items.

"In the event of an issue, we have a Rapid Response Process that ensures all stores are notified within a matter of hours.
Affected products are then removed from the shelves to ensure the safety of our customers.

"Some recalls or withdrawals can include instore notices, notification to online customers by email and media press releases.
All recalls are managed by the Food Safety & Quality team who also liaise closely with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland in addition to other agencies."
