'That's at least four months rent' - Ireland reacts to life-changing EuroMillions win

The whole of the country is awash with intrigue and excitement this morning as it was revealed on Tuesday night that the winning ticket of an incredible life-changing sum of money was sold in Ireland.

Some lucky person on our fair Ireland is waking up today knowing that their lives have been changed forever as they wait to collect a massive €250m euro from the National Lottery Headquarters.

While there has been no indication as to where the winning ticket was sold, speculation is rife over where it is, who it is, and what they're going to do with that massive amount of money.

Over on social media, people are abuzz with comments about the win, some congratulating the winner, some leaning towards the fact this amount of money could potentially ruin someone's life, and most just finding humour in the whole situation.

@m_mc_caguemusic said "Someone in Ireland will finally be able to afford a house, somewhere!"

While @ArseCannonPics said "One Irish winner of the Euromillions. That’s one life either made or ruined. I’ll take a few quid off you to ease your burden."

Meanwhile, the National Lottery has also sent out some sage advice to the winner telling them to "stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can."

For the record, the winning numbers are 13, 22, 23, 44 and 49. The Lucky Stars are 3 and 5.

The record-breaking win eclipses the €175 million record for the largest cheque presented in the famous Winners' Room, when Reilly's Daybreak on Main Street, The Naul, County. Dublin, sold the winning ticket for Ireland’s largest EuroMillions win in February 2019.

Commenting following confirmation that the winning ticket has been sold in Ireland, National Lottery CEO Cian Murphy is advising EuroMillions players to check their tickets very carefully to see if they have landed this mega windfall.

"We are absolutely thrilled to see this incredible and record win for an Irish EuroMillions player! We are advising our players to check their tickets and if they are the winner, sign the back of the ticket, keep it safe, and contact National Lottery HQ and we will guide you through the claims process."

He added: "The details surrounding the winning ticket will be revealed over the coming days. With such a big win we have procedures to follow, but we will reveal the winning location as soon as we can.  While this is a massive win, it can come as a shock to a winner and we advise them to stay calm, get independent legal and financial advice and contact us as soon as they can."
