A man in his 80s has died after his car entered the water off Clare Island, Co Mayo.
The incident happened in the Glen area of the island at around 1pm on Tuesday, gardai said.
The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was taken to Mayo University Hospital where a post mortem examination is due to take place.
A Garda Forensic Collision Investigator has carried out an examination of the scene.
Anyone with any information about the incident has been asked to contact gardai.
