A EuroMillions Plus player is having a December to remember after claiming the top prize of €500,000 in the Friday, November 29, draw.
The Dublin winner purchased his winning ticket online through the National Lottery app.
In disbelief, he exclaimed, “I bought a EuroMillions ticket on the app, using the same numbers every week. I got to work early and while I was sitting in the car, I decided to purchase one more ticket for the draw, this time it was just a 'Quick Pick' ticket with Plus. That extra ticket turned out to be the lucky one!”
That night, the Dublin man scanned his ticket online and was in complete shock to see he had won €500,000.
“I got the notification on my phone, I could not believe what I was seeing. I took a screenshot of the notification and sent it to my wife – we were both in complete shock!”
The Dublin man admitted that the win is yet to sink in, even while sitting in the exclusive Winners Room in Lottery HQ.
Although the celebrations were minimal, the player is planning to go on a memorable holiday with his family next year and carry out some overdue home renovations.
Also collecting their handsome prize was a Louth man who man struck gold in the online game ‘Mega 777 Multiplier’ just as he was heading out to work.
Speaking about his win, he excitedly recalled, “My partner lives in South Africa so on most Mondays, we like to play one of the online games together while on a video call. It’s almost like a virtual date night. We’ve never had much luck, but last Saturday I was passing time before making my way to work and decided to play a game. First, I won €10, which was great, and I replayed once more, and that’s when I won €50,000!”
The Louth man plans on putting his life-enhancing prize towards the deposit of a home in the future, and he’s looking forward to celebrating with his family over the festive season.
A Limerick man is also celebrating after claiming the €20,000 top prize in the seasonal 'Merry Money' scratch card, purchased at Garryowen Post Office in Pennywell, Limerick.
The winner shared with the National Lottery his exciting story behind the surprise win: “I popped into the local post office to collect my pension and decided to pick up a €5 scratch card. That evening over a cup of tea, my wife was scratching the card – when suddenly she gives me a big hug and says, ‘we are going to have the best Christmas ever!’, realising we had just won the €20,000 top prize on the 'Merry Money' scratch card.”
As for his plans on his newfound fortune: “With Christmas coming up, we will make sure our grandchildren have a Christmas to remember. Next year, I will be taking my wife on a well-deserved getaway to Spain!”
Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage, and the Irish Language.
In total, more than €6.5 billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago.
In 2023 alone, €227.9 million was raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland.
