President Michael D Higgins met with the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at a courtesy call in Àras an Uachtaráin on morning of December 11 to discuss such matters.

The two Heads of State, according to a press release, discussed the current situation in the Middle East , including in Gaza and the recent events in Syria.

The press release stated: "the outrageous suffering in the absence of the ceasefire in Gaza was the central part of their discussion."
