Gardai launch investigation after young girl dies following fatal assault at private home

A post-mortem examination will be scheduled.

Gardaí have launched an investigation after a young girl died following a fatal assault over the weekend.
The incident occurred at a domestic residence in New Ross, County Wexford, on Sunday, December 1.
 
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene at approximately 11.45pm, which then saw the girl be taken to University Hospital Waterford for treatment.
In a statement, a spokesperson confirmed she passed away from her injuries in the early hours of this Monday morning.
 
A woman and man in their 30s are also receiving treatment at University Hospital Wexford.
Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
 
The scene remains preserved for forensic examination. The Coroner has been notified and the Garda Technical Bureau, and the Office of the State Pathologist have been requested to assist in the investigation.
A post-mortem examination will be scheduled.
 
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at New Ross garda station.
 
Investigating gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information on this incident to come forward.
