'Keep her lit!' Photo of 'festive' car at garda checkpoint generates huge reaction online

A photo posted on social media of a car which was encountered by gardai at a checkpoint earlier this week has attracted a huge reaction online. 

Gardai have shared an image of the Volkswagen car which has been decorated with thousands of coloured Christmas lights.

"Reserve Garda Butler from Kevin St (in Dublin) was on checkpoint duty when he came across two lads that are already all set for the upcoming festive season. Bringing a whole new meaning to #BeSafeBeSeen Keep her lit!" reads the post on X, formerly Twitter, which has already been viewed more than almost 120,000 times.

The post, which was shared on Saturday evening, has attracted huge interest from social media users.

"They should sign up for one of the tractor & car ‘Light Up’ Christmas runs for charity," reads one comment while another reads: "We should cover a Luas like this!"

While some users on X have questioned the legality of Christmas lights being placed on cars, most people have expressed their approval.

"That's class! A great bit of cheer!," said one user.
