Busted! Contraband worth over €180k seized in Dublin and the Midlands

Illicit drugs seized last week by Revenue.

Investigations are underway after Revenue officers examining parcels at premises in Dublin and the Midlands seized significant quantities of illicit goods, including drugs and retail products. 

Confirming the seizures, they said the illegal contraband was discovered as a result of risk profiling.

With the assistance of detector dogs, Sam, Grace and Enzo, parcels that originated in the USA, the UK, Canada, Thailand, India, Malaysia, Austria, France, the Netherlands and Sweden, which were intended for addresses nationwide were caught before potential distribution could begin.

The seized items include, 5.3 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €106,400, 6,200 cigarettes and various other illegal substances, with a total estimated value of €24,700, and, a quantity of retail goods, with an estimated value of €52,700, due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights. 

Telescopic batons, pepper gel and pepper spray were also detected over the course of the last week.

Other illegal substances seized include honey butane oil, cannabis oil, cannabis resin, synthetic cannabinoids, cannabis edibles, magic mushrooms, Benzodiazepine, Tapentadol, Diazepam, Alprazolam, Zopiclone, and Zolpidem tablets, 2-MMC Powder, hemp capsules containing THC, Psilocybe, Psilocybin oil, and kratom powder. 

The retail goods caught consisted of 158 x items of Adidas, Alexander McQueen, Ami, Armani, Cortiez, Cristian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Moncler, Nike, The North Face, Armani, Canada Goose, Gucci, Hermes,  Lacoste, Palm Angels, Prada, Puma, Ralph Lauren, Stone Island, Tommy Hilfiger and White Fox.

Revenue says the seizures are part of its ongoing operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.

No further information has been disclosed publicly as investigations are ongoing.
