It may be early September, but the date for this year's Late Late Toy Show has been confirmed by RTÉ and there is one major change.

Wearing a Santa hat, Host Patrick Kielty announced the details on Friday night as he returned for his second season of the iconic and long-running chat show.

"On Friday the sixth of December, this studio will be hosting a little thing called the Toy Show," he told viewers and members of the studio audience.

The date, the first Friday in December, is a week later the traditional broadcast date so children and families across the country should change their plans and mark it in their calendars now!

"We are looking for amazing kids from every county in Ireland to join us right here in the studio," said Patrick as he delivered the exciting news.

"To parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, neighbours, teachers SNAs and coaches, we want to hear from you. If you know a kid that you would like to see on the Toy Show, send them our way and, who knows, they could ne joining me on the most magical night of the year," he added.

More details can be found here and the deadline for applications is Wednesday, October 2.

The theme of this year's Late Late Toy Show will be revealed nearer the time.
