Gardai have seized a submachine gun along with significant quantities of drugs and cash after raiding a house in Limerick city this Tuesday morning.
A man, who was arrested during the search operation in the Ballynanty area of the city, remains in garda custody.

"A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested at the scene and he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in the Limerick Division," they added.
The search operation involved members of the Limerick Divisional Drugs Unit, uniform personnel and detectives from Mayorstone garda station in the city.
Assistance was also received from members of the Armed Support Unit and the Regional Dog Unit.
"The seized items are undergoing forensic examination and investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson who added that this Tuesday's operation was part of Operation Tara which aims to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels.
