A woman has died following a two-vehicle crash collision in County Mayo which resulted in six other people being hospitalised - two with serious injuries.
Gardaí are currently at the scene of the fatal incident which happened on the N59 in Newport at approximately 4.30pm this Thursday.
A female passenger in one of the vehicles was seriously injured during the collision and she was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
The body of the woman, aged in her 60s, has since been removed from the scene to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital where a post-mortem will take place in due course.
According to gardai, the two other occupants of the same vehicle, a male and female, are currently receiving medical treatment for serious injuries at Mayo University Hospital.
Four occupants of the second vehicle were also taken to Mayo University Hospital where they are being treated for injuries that are understood to be non-life threatening.
Gardai say the N59, Newport to Mulranny road, is currently closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators conduct a technical examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to come forward.
Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
