A woman has been found dead at the site of a fire in Co Cork.
Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of an incident at a domestic residence on Connolly Street, Midleton, Cork, where the body of the woman was found.
The woman, who is reportedly aged in her 20s, was discovered after gardaí and paramedics were called to an apartment in Midleton town centre shortly after 4pm. Sky News reported that a man was also found injured at the scene.
Initial indications are that the woman did not die as a result of the blaze with visible injuries which were inconsistent with a fire.
However, gardaí will not be able to determine a precise cause of death for the young woman until after a post mortem examination is conducted at Cork University Hospital (CUH).
Footage of smoke coming from the apartment was shared on social media.
Gardaí said in a statement that inquiries are ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
Further updates will follow as they become available.
