Third road fatality in Meath in less than six hours as man in 20s killed in second crash

Two men (30s) also passed away in a three-vehicle collision involving motorcycles earlier in the day

Third road fatality in Meath in less than six hours as man in 20s killed in second crash

A man in his 20s has died following a single-vehicle crash in Meath on Sunday night, bringing the total of road fatalities in the county to three in less than six hours.

Shortly before 10pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to a single-vehicle collision on the R161 Trim to Navan Road at Philpotstown near Navan. 

The driver and sole occupant of the car, a man in his 20s, was treated at the scene and brought by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The scene has been preserved overnight, and local traffic diversions are in place pending examination this morning by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. 

The local Coroner has been notified, and a post-mortem examination will be arranged.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were traveling on the R161 road between Navan and Trim, Co. Meath, between 9:30pm and 10pm on Sunday are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.

This was the third fatality in Meath in less than six hours following the death of two men in a three-vehicle collision involving motorcycles at Ballaney, Oldcastle at approximately 4.40pm. 

Two other men were also hospitalised - one for serious injuries and the other for what was believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are also appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
