Gardaí from the Armed Response Unit have shot a pit-bull terrier that injured two people in a dog attack in Cork city.
Togher Gardaí and the Armed Response Unit were called to a private residence in Ballyphehane, Cork City on Thursday evening, June 6, following reports of a pit-bull terrier attacking residents
A man and woman injured by the dog were transported to Cork University Hospital for medical assessment and treatment.
According to a statment from An Garda Síochána, "gardaí engaged with the owner of the dog, and after failed attempts to sedate the animal, it was shot by the Armed Response Unit".
The dog was later euthanized by a vet.
The incident follows just days after a 23-year-old Limerick woman died after she was attacked by her XL Bully dog and its puppy.
Nicole Morey died from her injuries at the scene after being attacked on Tuesday night, June 4 in at a rented property in county Limerick.
The XL Bully dog was shot four times by a member of the Armed Response Unit after it went to attack a member of An Garda Síochána at the scene.
