President Higgins to meet new Chief Rabbi of Ireland ahead of pro-Israel march

President Michael D. Higgins will meet with the new Chief Rabbi of Ireland tomorrow (May 23) on a courtesy call.

That's according to the president's diary, which confirms Chief Rabbi Yoni Wieder - who was officially inducted into office in Dublin last night (May 21) - will speak with the president.

Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis - who was Ireland's Chief Rabbi 1984 to 1992 - completed Chief Rabbi Wieder's induction.

Posting a picture of the two on X (formerly Twitter), Ireland's former Chief Rabbi stated he was delighted to "pay tribute to the outstanding leadership Rabbi Yoni and Rebbetzen Olivia are giving to the Irish Jewish community".

Weider leads the Dublin Hebrew Congregation in Terenure, and has written extensively on the history and development of Halakha (Jewish law) in the modern era, and has essays published in religious and academic journals.

He is also head of Jewish Studies at Stratford College.

Chief Rabbi Wieder is expected to speak at a pro-Israel solidarity march in Dublin this Sunday (May 26).
