A motorist has been fined after being caught driving with a dangerously defective tyre.
In a notice issued on social media, An Garda Síochána used the example of the fined driver - who was spotted in Gorey, Co Wexford - to stress the dangers of driving on the roads with unsafe tyres.
The statement reads, "It's very dangerous to take to the road with sub-standard, incorrect or poor quality tyres.
"Gardaí in Gorey came across this defective tyre at a checkpoint today as part of Tyre Safety Day. This driver has been fined."
It comes after Gardaí released an appeal released yesterday (May 15) urging drivers to check their tyres.
In a post on X, a Garda spokesperson said, "By law, it's every driver's responsibility to ensure that their vehicle's tyres are safe and that all are a minimum 1.6mm in depth.
"Tomorrow is Tyre Saferty Day so we're asking, have you checked yours?"
