Gardaí have released an extraordinary video showcasing dozens of seized electric bikes suspected of being used for criminal activity.

According to An Garda Síochána, 53 electric motorbikes with a combined value of approximately €300,000 have been seized since the commencement of Operation Meacan in December.

Operation Meacan was launched with the aim of addressing the emergence of electric bikes being used for criminal activity in south and west Dublin.

This includes dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences.

The video was published today (Friday April 12) with the caption, "Check out this haul. Gardaí in our south and west Dublin divisions spent some of the day on duty yesterday picking up electric motorbikes that are suspected of being used to engage in criminal activity in local communities."

According to Gardaí, 19 search teams made up of 120 Gardaí searched 40 properties during yesterday's (April 11) operation activity.

They were supported by a number of specialist units including the Armed Support Unit, the Garda Dog Unit, the Dublin Crime Response Team as well as the Special Tactics and Operational Command (STOC).

Together they seized 10 Surron electric motorbikes (values range between €4,000 and €10,000), 12 motorbikes and scramblers, 12 electric bicycles and e-scooters, three quad bikes, and one jet-ski and trailer (valued at approximately €10,000).

Officers also seized €42,950 in cash, €8,000 worth of suspected cocaine and cannabis, five designer watches (One Tag Heuer and four Rolex), and designer goods valued in the region of €25,000.

Two people were arrested on bench warrants, and investigations are ongoing.
