Tremors from a fatal earthquake in Taiwan were recorded at an Irish school on Wednesday morning.

A seismograph at St Columba's College in Stranolar measured tremors from the 7.4 magnitude quake.

Seven people were killed and over 700 more injured when the earthquake struck during rush hour.

Science teacher Brendan O'Donoghue, who was instrumental in St Columba's joining the international Seismology in Schools network, shared an image of the earthquake's helicorder plot.

As well as recording earthquakes, St Columba's contributes to international monitoring bodies for things like nuclear tests.

The earthquake in Taiwan was the strongest in 25 years, since a 7.6 magnitude quake shook the area in 1999, killing 2,400 people.
