National: TD hits out at conspiracy theorists and UK media over Kate Middleton cancer story

The Princess of Wales released a statement on Friday

A Clare TD has hit out at what he described as a "cesspit" of comments on X, formerly Twitter, over the cancer diagnosis of Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.

The Princess released a statement via video on Friday announcing that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy after having stomach surgery in January. The announcement followed weeks of speculation about her health after a Mother's Day photo of her and her children was confirmed to have been edited.

There has been a huge outpouring of support for the Princess of Wales since she made the news public, explaining the delay was in order for her and Prince William to explain the situation to their kids.

One Fianna Fail TD, Clare's Cathal Crowe, posted a message of well wishes to Kate on his X account but later slammed the comments made underneath the post by followers and members of the public.

He said on X: "Earlier tonight I posted about Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. You’d want to see the comments from people on FB and Insta v Twitter. Twitter (X) is a such a cesspit for anonymous, cowardly trolls. It’s trolls like this with their tinfoil hats and BS conspiracy theories that were a factor, along with tabloid UK media, in Kate having to ‘out’ her illness. Shameful!

"When I meet some of the people who troll me in the real world courage takes flight and they look at their shoes instead of challenging me face to face. Online cowardliness," he added.

Deputy Crowe had earlier posted: "Awful that media / social media trolls and conspiracy theorists pushed Kate Middleton to the point where she had to announce her cancer treatment to the public. She and her family must be under immense pressure and strain. I wish the very best for her she prepares for treatment, hopefully leading to a full recovery.

"Royal or not, Kate and her family deserve some space and kindness from the public."

This initial post did attract some sickening comments while others joined the TD in wishing the Princess well in her treatment.
