Man arrested on suspicion of kidnapping woman as vehicle at centre of Garda appeal recovered

The suspect is being detained at a garda station in the North-West

A man, 40s, has been arrested on suspicion of kidnapping after An Garda Síochána successfully located a van they were earlier in pursuit of this Tuesday.

The yellow Renault Trafic van with registration number 181-D-39433 was last seen in Dublin city centre and following information provided within an hour of the alert by a member of the public, was located in Co Mayo.

A garda spokesperson has said: "The investigation into the alleged false imprisonment of a female [30s] is ongoing. The woman is safe and well and is currently receiving support from An Garda Síochána.

An adult male has been arrested and is presently in custody at a Garda Station in the Northwestern Garda Region."

Gardaí had responded to a public order incident in Arklow, Co Wicklow, in the early hours of this Tuesday morning before the alert was issued later in the afternoon.

An Garda Síochána would like to thank the public and media for their assistance.

Investigations are ongoing.
