Thee men due in court following seizure of firearms and ammunition in Co. Kildare

Gardai say a M1911 Handgun and a G3 Rifle were found during a search of the vehicle along with 40 rounds of ammunition

Three young men have been charged by gardai following the seizure of a number of high-powered firearms and dozens of rounds of ammunition over the weekend.

The seizure and arrests were made during a major garda operation in Co. Kildare on Saturday morning.

Gardai say a M1911 Handgun and a G3 Rifle were found during a search of the vehicle after it was intercepted and searched  around 10am on Saturday. 40 rounds of ammunition were also discovered and seized.

The operation, they added, was part of "intelligence-led investigations targeting firearm trafficking" and involved officers attached to the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by the Emergency Response Unit.Three men,  aged 19, 20 and 21, were arrested on Saturday morning and they were detained over the weekend at garda stations in Co. Kildare.

In an update this Monday morning, investigating gardai say all three have now been charged and will be brought before the courts.

They are due to appear before Naas District Court later this Monday.
