Arrest made following Clare road crash which left young boy with serious injuries

A man who was arrested following a serious road crash in Co. Clare at the weekend has been released without charge, gardai have confirmed.

A ten-year-old boy was hospitalised following the incident which happened at Purcell Park, Shannon shortly after 2pm on Sunday.

The child, who was struck by a van, was initially airlifted to University Hospital Limerick to receive treatment for serious injuries and has since been transferred to Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street in Dublin.

"A man in his 20s who was arrested in connection with the incident has since been released pending further investigations," confirmed a garda spokesperson in an update, issued this Monday evening.

A technical and forensic examination of the scene has been completed and local traffic diversions have now been lifted.

Investigating gardaí are appealing to any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users with camera footage, including dash-cam, who were traveling in the Purcell Park area between 1.45pm and 2.30pm on Sunday are asked to provide this footage to gardaí," said a spokesperson.
