Derry Magistrate's Court
A man charged with improper use of the communication network by posting Tik Tok videos relating to his former partner was told by a judge he would imprison him for longer if he could.
Lee Healy (39) of Bond's Hill in Derry admitted the offence that occurred on dates between November 9 and November 13 2023 when he appeared at Derry Magistrate's Court today.
The court heard that Healy's former partner reported that she had been told that he was posting videos on Tik Tok referring to her not by name but as 'the mother of my children'.
In the videos the defendant made allegations against the woman and she believed he was trying to 'degrade her' and cause her distress.
A defence solicitor said her client had made admissions at interview and accepted the videos could cause distress.
She said that Healy had not referred to the woman by name but she was identifiable.
District Judge Barney McElholm said that this was 'a nasty, low offence'.
He said that he was bound by the maximum sentence he could impose but added 'if I could give him longer I would'.
Healy was sentenced to five months in prison.
