The Leaving Certificate just got interesting as two blockbuster films will be will be added to the English syllabus by 2026.
Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster Barbie movie will be on the Leaving Cert English syllabus by 2026 as well as The Banshees of Inisherin directed by Martin McDonagh.
Students will be asked to compare and contrast various aspects of the film with other films in the syllabus.
This includes examining the relationships between characters as well as social contexts.
The syllabus was published by the Department of Education on Monday, February 21 and contains the selected novels, poems, and plays that students will be required to study for the English exam in June 2026.
