Suspicion of drink driving and dangerous overtaking leads gardaí in Cork to arrest

Gardaí in Cork were alerted to a van driving dangerously and overtaking traffic by using the hard shoulder on the M8 close to Glanmire Co. Cork yesterday evening, Tuesday, February 13.

On approach the driver failed to stop when prompted by gardaí. Additional assistance was provided by two garda Units from Mitchelstown and Fermoy, and the vehicle was eventually safely stopped.

It quickly became clear why the driver was so eager to evade gardaí as cans and bottles of drink were observed in the passenger's seat of the van.

The man was arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated and charged with a number of offences including assaulting an on-duty Garda. He will be before the courts at a later date.
