Gardaí have issued a warning about misinformation surrounding the possible use of a vacant property in Leixlip, Co Kildare following a fire that broke out in the early hours of this Wednesday.
Gardaí were alerted to the fire - at a vacant residential property on Celbridge Road in the town - at approximately 1.30am and they subsequently attended the scene.
Local fire services also attended and the fire was brought under control a number of hours later. According to gardai, there was nobody in the building at the time of the incident.
A spokesperson confirmed "substantial damage" was caused to the property and that a Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to oversee the investigation.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them."Any person who was in the vicinity of Celbridge Road and Forest Park between 12.30am and 2am and who observed any unusual activity is asked to contact investigating gardaí," said a spokesperson who added: "An Garda Síochána is aware of a significant volume of misinformation, disinformation and rumour in relation to the use or proposed use of the building."
