Aslan unveil new frontman to replace late Christy Dignam and new tour across Ireland

Legendary Irish band Aslan has welcomed a new singer as they prepare for their first tour since the death of frontman Christy Dignam.

Dubliner Lee Tompkins will replace the late Dignam who passed away last summer following a long illness.

“New beginnings, this announcement comes with heavy and mixed emotions for us,” band members Billy McGuinness, Joe Jewell and Alan Downey said in a statement posted to Facebook today.

“After 40 years of playing with our front man Christy, we absolutely know it’s not the same and never will be, but we want to continue playing our music and bringing our music to you.

"This is our way of letting our memories over 4 decades, live on and keeping Aslan alive within each of us and together and keeping our music alive for you all."

The group added: "We are looking forward to seeing you again and welcome Lee Tomkins, who will be singing our Aslan songs and who has been a huge support to each of us, in being able to make this happen.

“We as always are so grateful for the love and support you have all shown us, throughout difficult times and good times.

“We truly hope we will make you proud and we are looking forward to bringing you some songs that we have never performed before!"

Aslan will play their first gig in Cyrus Avenue in Cork on March 22 with dates to follow in Waterford, Wexford, Limerick and Galway before their final date in Dublin's Whelan’s on April 25.
