Thousands of people across the country will be getting a double social welfare payment at the end of this month as the last cost of living bonus as part of Budget 2024 is set to be applied.

The payment is due to start being paid out during next week, starting on Monday, January 29.

Christmas bonuses were given out in December with other payments made to carers, fuel allowance and child benefit recipients over the last few months.

The range of  measures were announced as part of Budget 2024 which saw a record allocation to the Department of Social Protection of €2.3bn.

The maximum rate of all weekly social welfare payments increased by €12 with proportional increases for qualified adults and people on reduced rates of payment (January 2024).

The weekly rate for a qualified child will increase by €4. It will increase from €42 to €46, for children under 12 years of age. It will increase from €50 to €54 for children aged 12 years and over (January 2024).
