Man hospitalised after disturbance at church in the Midlands this afternoon

Gardai and ambulances personnel were called to the scene of an incident at Portlaoise Parish church which culminated in a man being hospitalise over the weekend.

Gardai were called to SS Peter & Paul's Church on Saturday afternoon, January 13.

Gardai confirmed that they were responding to a disturbance. At least two patrol cars and an ambulance attended.

It is understood that an Irish national aged in his 40s who lives in Portarlington was shouting while intoxicated.

During the incident he collapsed which required an emergency medical response.

He was subsequently hospitalised. He was not arrested at the scene.

His medical condition is not known
