A local fire brigade has posted a reminder to the public about the dangers of running tumble dryers without the necessary maintenance.
Dunleer Fire & Rescue took to their Facebook page on Christmas Day to highlight the importance of routinely cleaning the filter on tumble dryers.
They posted a photo of a charred tumble dryer with the caption, "This is what happens when you don't clean your Clothes Dryer lint filter after every load".
It is important to keep your tumble dryer clean and lint-free to prolong its life and keep it working safely and efficiently.
After every tumble drying cycle, it is advised to clean the lint filter as a clogged filter will reduce airflow into the machine. This will compromise efficiency, cost more in energy bills and even pose a safety risk if it gets too hot.
Simply remove the filter and scrape off any lint or debris with your fingers. If you find there is still excess lint, you can use a brush, vacuum, or run it under the tap. Ensure that the filter is completely dry before you put it back in the machine.
