THE Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed it's providing assistance to the family of an Irish couple who were killed in a road collision in Italy.
The man and woman, who were married, died after they were struck by a car in the capital, Rome at lunchtime this Thursday.
According to several reports, the incident happened at a busy intersection close to a campsite near the Presidential Palace Castel Porziano. The driver of the car sustained minor injuries.
It's reported the couple, who were aged 59 and 60, were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
The Department of Foreign Affairs has said it is aware of the incident and is providing consular assistance.
No further information has been released publicly.
Police in Rome have launched an investigation.
