Physiotherapist to be declared new president of rural youth organisation

No Macra na Feirme presidential election is going ahead this year after just one nomination was received.

As the sole candidate, Ms Elaine Houlihan of Kilmallock Macra Club will be declared president elect of the rural youth organisation for the 2023-2025 term on April 5.

According to the Independent.ie, she will be the second female president in the history of the organisation.

Houlihan, who is a physiotherapist from Athlacca in Co Limerick, comes from a beef enterprise and family-run agricultural engineering business, and is currently Munster Vice President within Macra.

Speaking about the news, Houlihan said, "I am excited to lead one of the most vibrant rural organisations in Ireland. I am looking forward to building on the work I have done over the past two years and continuing the work that has been previously done within our organisation."

She will be taking over as the group's 39th president from John Keane on May 13, 2023 at their AGM.

Outgoing Macra President John Keane said, "I am delighted to be handing over to Elaine in May, she was an exceptionally effective Vice President for the last two years, I have no doubt that she will continue on the good work that has started."
