'Like Electric Picnic': Tickets go on sale for live music event in Limerick

TBL8, a Dublin-based Brass/Funk band will play at SummerJam in Newcastle West

A LIVE music event in Limerick that is said to be “like Electric Picnic” is returning for it’s fifth annual instalment and is set to “kick the summer off in a special way!”

SummerJam is returning to Newcastle West for a night of live Reggae/Brass Funk “extravaganza” and for the fifth year, will return to Clearys Bar on June 14.

Featuring food trucks, “party vibes and Clearys ‘cocktail du jour’ to enjoy, it is all set in their fantastic Biergarten, and is set to kick the summer off in a special way!,” an event spokesperson said.

The night sees renowned local performer, Trevor Sexton, play with UK Reggae heavy-weights Captain Accident & The Disasters, as well as leading Festival Kings, TBL8, a Dublin-based Brass/Funk band, playing everything from Billie Eilish to Marvin Gaye.

Seamus Cleary, owner of Cleary's Bar, said: “I get people telling me it’s like any national festival like Electric Picnic, except it's better, because they get to go home to their own bed that night!”

Trevor Sexton, renowned local singer who has performed previously in Newcastle West, said: “I can’t wait for this gig, I’ve sang Bob Marley’s songs for years but this is the first time I’m doing a full set of just Marley songs in my home town, and in Clearys which will always have a special place in my heart! 

“Seamus gave me my first gig when I went back playing music.”

Tickets for SummerJam are €30 and available on Eventbrite now.
