A “BELOVED” Irish traditional music series is making its way to Limerick as part of a nationwide tour.

TG4’S Geantraí returns for its 19th season and on Sunday, February 23, will be stopping in Bulgaden Castle in Killmallock.

The programme features music from Brian, Anthony and Lorna Fitzgerald, Ronan Ryan and Eoin O’Neill, Maeve Scahill and Richie Murray, Deirdre Scanlon, Catherine and Cathal Clohessy, Sean O’Meara and Liam Guiney, as well as Naoise, Aoibhne and Aoileann O’Connor.

The 13-episode series tours the country for “lesser-known hotspots where local talent flourishes in the heart of the Irish session tradition”.

Hosted by acclaimed singer Pauline Scanlon, the show highlights newly composed tunes and songs, showcasing the wealth of musical talent around the country every Sunday evening.

“Geantraí has always been about the living tradition of Irish music. This series continues to celebrate that, bringing the music and its creators into the spotlight,” she said.

“We’ve focused on capturing not just the music, but the environments where these sessions happen—places where the heart of Irish culture beats strongest.”

Hedgerow Films has been recording episodes across the country over recent months and the show is filmed in relaxed pub sessions and intimate settings.

“Geantraí has always been about community and connection, particularly between the musicians and their listeners,” said Paschal Cassidy, director of Hedgerow Films.

“Through modern film and audio technology, we’re capturing that magic in a way that will resonate with both traditionalists and new audiences alike.”

In addition to Geantraí coming to Limerick, one Limerick singer will also appear in the first episode of the latest series of another TG4 classic, hit country music show Glór Tíre.

Marion Kelly, who lives close to Thomond Park in the city, is the sole Munster representative on TG4’s long-running country music show which returns to our screens on Tuesday, March 4, at 9.30pm.

The Limerick woman’s determination to bring a distinct approach to the show will be in full effect, as she will perform Shania Twain’s 1997 hit, ‘Man! I Feel Like a Woman’ and ‘Shallow’, the Bradley Cooper/Lady Gaga number from A Star Is Born.

“I just wanted to pick something different and bring a different style into the competition,” says Marion of her song choices, “and I feel these songs will go down really well.”

Marion is one of eight contestants competing for the coveted title of Ireland’s Glór Tíre Country Music Champion 2025.
