First Limerick finalist at music awards

Lucia Murphy, a violinist from Limerick Tutorial College performed at the classical music awards two weeks ago

LIMERICK'S first ever finalist in the Top Security Frank Maher Classical Music Awards was 18-year-old violinist Lucia Murphy from Limerick Tutorial College.

Lyric FM presenter Marty Whelan was master of ceremonies for an evening of outstanding teen musical talent at which Lucia performed two pieces, ‘Banjo and Fiddle’ by composer William Kroll and ‘Concerto No.2, 2nd Movement’ by Henrik Wieniawski two weeks ago.

Lucia was presented with a €300 bursary as were the other finalists.

The Limerick teen is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, Cork Youth Orchestra and also the Ulster Youth Orchestra.

A versatile musician, Lucia enjoys playing classical and traditional Irish music.

A multiple prize winner at Feis Ceol, Feile Luimni and Feis Maitiú, Lucia was awarded the Power Find Violin Award at Feis Ceoil in 2022.

Lucia plays a Charles Fetique fiddle donated by the Music Instrument Fund of Ireland.
