Multi-award winning Limerick chamber choir Ancór are set to take to the stage again on May 9 in St Mary’s Cathedral at 8pm where they will be joined by with The Augsburg College Choir, from Minneapolis, USA.
The concert will feature music from Rachmaninov, Dowland, Schütz, Byrd, Brahms and many other stellar composers spanning the generations.
Ancór has established itself as one the most accomplished vocal ensembles in the mid-west region, receiving numerous awards in its nine year existence, the most recent of these being first prizes in the Sacred Music and Early Music competitions in the 2014 Limerick Choral Festival.
Ancór has performed internationally, in the Irish College in Paris and are due to tour Italy this summer, with a number of performances scheduled in Florence, Gricigliano and Venice.
Ancór will welcome the Augsburg College Choir - now in its 79th year - as part of the City of Culture events. The 70-voice choir, under the direction of Peter Hendrickson, celebrates a long tradition of excellence in choral music.
Praised for its high level of musicianship, the ensemble performs a diverse repertoire including compositions by well-known Scandinavian and American composers as well as a wide variety of music from throughout the world.
