MUNSTER Rugby utility back Sean O'Brien admitted the departures of Ireland internationals Conor Murray and Peter O'Mahony from the province's squad this summer will be ‘massive losses’.

Murray and O'Mahony and Leinster's Cian Healy will all end their international careers after the conclusion of the Guinness Six Nations later this month. O'Mahony is retiring from playing with Munster at the end of this season, with Murray set to depart the province this summer for a new opportunity abroad.

Speaking in the wake of Munster's disappointing 28-34 defeat to Edinburgh at Virgin Media Park in Cork on Friday night, the returning Sean O'Brien said the duo had had a big influence on him during his time at Munster.

“Probably particularly Conor as a back, just the knowledge he has of pretty much everything rugby, but especially as a back, obviously you see a lot more of him.

“Pete, as well, just the leaders that the two of them are. When they speak up in a meeting everyone is listening and reacting to what they are saying. They will be massive losses for the club like, they have been here for 10-15 years, have a rake of caps and they are always there for the big games. It will be a massive loss for us and a big change but a good opportunity for other lads to step up, especially as leaders as well.”

Munster are fifth in the URC table after picking up two losing bonus points in the defeat of Edinburgh. There are now only six games remaining in the regular season before the play-offs get under way at the end of May. Munster are a point behind fourth-placed Sharks in the battle to secure home advantage in the URC quarter-final play-offs.
