"IT'S BEEN a good move, the lads here and the coaching staff have welcomed me with open arms and I am very happy to get the chance to be here" says Munster Rugby winger Thaakir Abrahams.
The South African native only joined the province at the start of this season, getting injured shortly after his debut in the Munster colours, but is now back on track after scoring his first try for Munster against the Emirate Lions last weekend.
Abrahams' time at Munster has not been without its challenges after picking up a thigh injury in the shock defeat to Zebre at the start of the season, which has kept him on the sidelines until last weekend, and also being part of a major coaching change with the departure of head coach Graham Rowntree.
While all of this was taking place the elusive back was without his family who only arrive to Limerick this week.
Speaking about being away from his wife and kids, Abrahams said: "It's actually been a long four months waiting for them to come here and they have finally arrived. I am very happy to have them here, I have a newborn daughter that I haven't seen in four months so I have missed quite a bit of her growing but she's here now so happy about that."
Their arrival to the Treaty County nicely coincided with Abrahams first try in Munster red as he dotted the ball over the line in Munster's 17-10 victory over the Emirates Lions last weekend.
Having his family watching on from the sidelines made his debut try even more special. "They probably brought a bit of luck and a bit more motivation for me as well. I love having my family there and having the support there with me and it definitely drives me on more."
Munster will be looking to Abrahams try-scoring skills this weekend as they face Stade Francais in the first round of the Investec Champions Cup in Thomond Park this Saturday afternoon at 5:30pm.
Before coming to Munster, Abrahams played with French club Lyon, which has allowed him to give Munster some insights into their Top 14 opposition this weekend.
"Stade Francais are obviously good at the counter-attack, I think they are the best in the Top-14 at it, so that is something we will have to be aware of on the day.
"The Champions Cup is a huge thing for Munster so it'll be about making the family and the fans proud on the big occasion at Thomond Park, what more could you ask for."
