Munster Rugby's Champions Cup hopes dealt blow as new boys Bayonne reel them in

Munster Rugby scrum-half Conor Murray reacts during his side's draw with Bayonne in the Champions Cup at Thomond Park on Saturday night

MUNSTER Rugby's Investec Champions Cup hopes were dealt a big blow at windy Thomond Park on Saturday night as competition newcomers Bayonne hit back to secure a share of the spoils in a hard fought 17-17 stalemate in front of 18,908 spectators.

A 76th minute try from Rémy Baget's and Thomas Dolhagaray's terrific touchline conversion gave the unfancied Top 14 side a deserved draw and silence the home supporters.

Two-time winners Munster led 14-3 at half-time thanks to tries from Champions Cup debutant Limerick winger Shay McCarthy and number eight Gavin Coombes.

Next up for Munster Rugby is a trip to Sandy Park on Sunday next, December 17 to take on Exeter Chiefs, 1pm.
